Meet the coach.
Howie Milstein brings a non-traditional background to his work as a Career Coach with Launchpad. As the Twin Cities’ first personal trainer in the early 1980s, followed by sales and leadership roles in the medical device industry, he continually observed that existing paradigms for motivation didn’t resonate with his clients or himself. These insights led Howie to a lifelong curiosity about the human condition, particularly the motivations that compel people to do what they do.
Having earned an undergraduate degree in Biochemistry and graduate degree in Exercise Physiology – both from the University of Minnesota – Howie ultimately got in touch with his own passion and earned a coaching certificate from Intrinsic Solutions International. Throughout his career as a practitioner in the business world, he has hired, trained, managed, developed and entertained scores of individuals, many of whom he considers his dear friends. To Howie business is personal, and he promotes the job search process as one that can result in authentic relationships, not merely a process by which employment is secured. He fundamentally believes that the best answers reside in the mind of the individual, and he toils relentlessly to help people do their best thinking. Howie is generationally agnostic, meaning that he works with all-comers, from new graduates through senior executives, and insists on having fun with the career transition process.
Howie has a wife and three adult children with minds of their own. Residing in Plymouth, Minnesota, Howie likes to golf, garden, motorcycle, and keep himself in reasonable physical (and mental) condition. He is a strong advocate for community and has held many non-profit board positions, including two years as President of the Sabes Jewish Community Center in Minneapolis, and director positions with the Minneapolis Federation of Jewish Service and the Westminster Counseling Center. He is addicted to entrepreneurism (hence his creation of Launchpad Career Coaching) and new ideas, which drives his wife and friends crazy.
